A Fantastic Weekend!

...well except for this strike business being postponed (so I still have to deal with it)...the weekend was awesome!

Friday night was the Sangeet. In Rohit's culture, it's a celebration of music and dancing for the upcoming nuptials. In Barna's culture, it's a women's party where they henna each other's hands and feet. In this case, the two traditions were merged to form the fabu party we went to on Friday. Pictures can be found here.

Then Saturday was the big day...from 2-2:30pm until after midnight! First, Rohit came over to the ceremony on a horse...and there were like 7-8 parts to the actual marriage ceremony *I'll add some info on this from the program later*. It was a great time had by all. The colors of all the saris was amazing! I loved it =) Pictures can be seen here.

Solstice in Times Square

What an awesome weekend! And acutally...I did ALOT of yoga and loved it!

Friday morning, I took a half day at work and went to Yoga with a View(Scenic Hudson Park in Irvington)...

I had the opportunity to take 2 classes with teachers from Yoga Works. I had been trying to get to their studio for a while and it was great! And they are only 6 miles from my house. I really need to buy a bicycle so I can take it to class!!!

Then on Saturday, I was up at 4:30am! And I got into Times Square by 6am...the first on line! There was a free yoga fest in Times Square (located at Duffy Square on 45th & 46th Streets bounded by 7th Ave and Broadway).

You can see some of the pictures I took here.

I got to take 2 classes...the first from 8:30-10pm...then I stood on line again...and was able to also take the one from 10:15-11:45am. Then I met up with my friend and we walked all over Manhattan...from 14th st - Union Square down into the West Village and all over Soho. We walked from 12 noon until almost 10pm! I was so tired...but it felt good. I even got a little tan =)

So I just joined swap-bot.com...

And I joined 2 postcard swaps. I'm going to give this a go first...and depending on how it goes, I'll see if I want to create my own (see previous posting about that).

I can't wait =)

Postcard swap

How cool is this? Not that I need another project, but this one looks fun and can be adapted for any theme or occasion...

What do you think? What to participate in one?

ooh...I found a few more to look at...

...and the appropriate supplies...

http://www.b-muse.com/ATC-ARt-supplies.htm

...a blog post by someone else along these lines...I think I like this idea better b/c it could be whatever you want as long as it relates to the theme...

***CAUTION***Brainstorming occurring!!!***
Now that I've been thinking about this...and I'm getting really excited about it, perhaps I will propose a postcard swap with the theme "Think Green"...in honor of all the efforts everyone is doing to be a more green, sustainable community and ultimately green global society. AND...I think it's important to stress that materials used for the swap must be recycled material that you already own...and create art on these postcards...if you must buy materials...it cannot be more than 25% of your total project. This will be a great away to use up those scraps of paper (magazines, etc.) around the house, or whatever you want to use. OR...you can be even more creative and carve your own stamp rather than buying one...either out of artist materials you already have...or food (like a potato)...the possibilities are endless.

What do you think?

Art, art, everywhere!

I had an amazing time last night! I went to the AAF yesterday and bought my first piece of art from a gallery!! I am so excited. I bought a print from Joanne Koltnow from the Modernbook Gallery in Palo Alto, CA. The print is of a poppy and the light shining through it was amazing!

The fair is going on now until Sunday (6/12-6/15). You should definitely try and go if you can...all art is priced from $100 to $10,000 to make it affordable to everyday people =)

Some of the galleries that I enjoyed:
Like the Spice

Carrie Haddad Gallery

Tria Gallery

and one of my favs was Michael Fitts from:

Fraser Gallery

...if I had $5000 to burn, I would have purchased one of his recycled metal painting...they were realistic...and just inspiring.

Update...

I've been busy...despite that I'm done with school I find that I am going to the gym more...trying to catch up on my reading...and trying to find more yoga workshops to try. I recently saw one in Omega that I want to try. I was thinking about this one.

Since I last posted I:
- went to see my grandfather (5/28-6/1)
- went to my brother's graduation
- went to the opening ceremony of the Arts & Business Council Summer Internship Program
- went to my intern's presentation (she did well in her second assignment)
- went to a friend's birthday party on the roof of the MET (very nice view)
- went to J's dance recital! She and the troupe ROCKED!!!
- went to B's Batchelorette Party Part Duex

and...I'm looking at my schedule this week to see if I can fit in a dance/fitness class at the Alvin Ailey Extension (my new intern Lindsey is working for AA this summer)...maybe we can take a class together!

And...I was just browsing on Green Yoga. I need to add this to my links. And of course...my normal flipping on Yoga Journal.

Nasamte!
