Benefit Art Auction

I went to my very first auction...how exciting. My company wasa sponsor for the event last night...for Sunnyside Community Services. I actually bid on a few of items in the silent auction...and won 2.

#1)
The 5th Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art
Fair market value: $59.95 | Minimum bid: $20

304 pp. 350 color ill. softcover exhibition catalogue edited by Lynne Seear and Suhanya Raffel. Published by the Queensland Art Gallery for the exhibition The 5th Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art, 2006, in association with the Australian Centre of Asia-Pacific Art, this richly illustrated publication accompanies the fifth in the series and examines the work of 37 individual artists, filmmakers and performers, as well as two multi-artist projects. Essays explore the traditions and histories that inform the practices of each artist while broader cultural and historical contexts are examined in a number of lead essays by eminent writers.

I got it for $30.

#2)

Fernand Léger and Manierre Dawson (set of 3 items)
Fair market value: n/a | Minimum bid: $15

Portfolio of six 11x14" prints and 50 postcards by Fernand Léger; 71 pp. color ill. softcover exhibition catalogue Manierre Dawson: New Revelations.
Fernand Léger was prolific in many media and gained recognition as one of the most prominent artists in Paris in the first half of the 20th century. A painter, filmmaker, designer, and printmaker. He had a great interest in industrial evolution and its relationship to man, which became one of the central themes of his oeuvre. He continually experimented with color, shape, movement, and space. Geometric forms and elements of a machine culture (cranks, pistons, robots, etc.) were important motifs in his many creations.

I got it for $20.

Cool, huh?

It was a lot of fun! Maybe next year, I could donate a piece to be included =)

School blues...

I can kinda see the light at the end of the tunnel...but right now I am engulfed in big fluffy pockets of FOG. I can't seem to navigate through it and am getting a little depressed. This is the worst I've ever done in school before...and it's kinda hard to take. I normally "get" stuff without thinking twice. I'm not bragging or anything, I just normally don't have problems. And now that I am...I'm not sure how to deal with it. It doesn't help that my professor is not very helpful...I mean he teaches the material AFTER he has assigned that week's graded homework...instead of before so that you actually had a chance to understanding it and then asking questions.

Well...this is my last weekend at the Ren Faire...I'll be done for another year of working 7 days a week for 3 months! I'm looking forward to sleeping in late one Saturday/Sunday morning...BUT more importantly, I'll be able to give more attention to my school work...AND see all the friends that I haven't in a while...I know I've got "appointments" set up already...and the list of return phone calls that I have to get back to people on...well let's just say it's quite a long list.

In the meanwhile, all I can do is try and get back on track with my exercise and proper eating...and try to do one homework problem a night!

Wish me luck...keep your fingers crossed...I've got 10 more weeks 'til this semsester ends!

Facelift...

I bought this wall swtich plate and LOVE it! It gives my wall a little facelift =)

I got it in Seattle at the Pike Place Market from this vendor.

This is giving me the idea to paint one or two walls in my house...spruce it up a bit =)

Update...

Well life is busy as usual for me this time of the year, I am:

-working full time at Con Ed and the fall/winter season is our peak time of the year. Within the last 2 weeks, I have been to 3 contractor damages and 1 fire!

-in school part-time aka. NO SLEEP. Normally this time of year is hectic, but its especially hectic right now b/c I am teaching myself! My teacher can't teach and is grading all the homework and not explaining how to do it. On top of all that, we just had a take home test due yesterday (which I took a day off of work Tuesday and spent 17 hours working on it! And I didn't go to bed until 11:30pm last night!) I can't wait for graduation!

AND...
-I'm still working Ren Faire...I've got 2 more weekends of CTRF. This past weekend was a three day weekend and it was exhausting! Two more weeks and I am free! Yippee!!!!

Then...

-I don't even want to talk about the backlog scrolls I need to finish and hand in...
-I have a couple of projects that I need to FINISH and get out of my house...
-I'd like to paint a couple of walls in my apartment...not sure when that is going to happen...

On my short-term list of things to do (after graduation):
-get in on the GTI (Gas Technology Institute Program for Fall 2008 *I can't seem to not go to school, huh?* for my job)
-Start my yoga certification? Something I'd like to do...

On my immediate short-term list of things to do (in 2 weeks):
-SLEEP IN
-Watch TV (I just got Season 1 of Dark Angel)
-SLEEP
-Read (I got a couple of new books in)
-SLEEP
-See my friends =)
-SLEEP

That's where I'm at right now...I'm totally frustrated with my class...and I saw on the syllabus that I have 2 more tests...one in November and one in December! I'm stating my HW as soon as I get home tonight!!!

Hope everyone is busy, but not as hectic as I am =P
